Paris After The War

Has Arrived!

Paris After the War is a set of photo stories that unfolds within the theater of a city suddenly freed from years of occupation, during which Parisians were checked for their papers and lived in fear of summary execution. Liberated, the city roared back to life. With ties to the liberating forces, American artists, jazz players, photographers, and writers moved to Paris and were especially welcome. They included dancer Bricktop Smith, saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, and writer Art Buchwald. Among that group of American émigrés was the photographer who made these photographs.
